Item type: Item , Female Representation in Senior Positions Within Private and Public Institutions in the Third-level Education Sector in Ireland.(Griffith College, 2024) de Freitas Fernandes Martins, Karina; Whelan, SuzanneIn the past years, female representation in the work environment discussions have increased and become more prominent. This study investigates the representation of women in senior roles within third-level educational institutions in Ireland, with a particular focus on the barriers and enablers that influence gender diversity in leadership. Despite global advancements in gender equality, women remain significantly underrepresented in the highest levels of academia, a phenomenon often attributed to the "Glass Ceiling." This research aims to investigate the current extent of female representation within a localised context for leading positions in Irish colleges and universities and analyse the impact of existing gender diversity initiatives and the cultural and organisational challenges. This research mainly adopted a positivist research philosophy integrated with a pragmatic view, allowing a value-free analysis of responses and comparison with literature and empirical data gathered from other sources, such as the Athena SWAN Charter, Central Statistics Office, and the HEA National Gender Equality Review. Through a mixed-methods approach, including an online survey and open comments, over 950 staff members from public and private institutions were invited to participate and contribute to this study, where 175 participants provided a 29% response rate. Based on findings, this study highlights gaps in the literature regarding the historical context, the cultural sphere and society, gender and diversity, the “Glass Ceiling” theory, ESG and CG for institutions, analysing the intersectionality of gender and the effectiveness of gender diversity initiatives over time, offering recommendations for industry practitioners and researchers, providing a deeper insight into how Governance and initiatives impact the workforce perception and how this varies between genders. This research contributes to the ongoing discourse on gender equality in academia by providing empirical evidence from the Irish context and identifying critical areas for further exploration, such as a qualitative study and the extension of the sentiment analysis, underscoring the importance of sustained efforts to create an inclusive environment where women can thrive in senior leadership roles, enhancing the overall effectiveness, innovation of educational institutions, and efforts to close the gender gap in leadership roles, ensuring that the progress is not only maintained but accelerated.Item type: Item , The Influence of Brand Personality on Customer Loyalty in the German Sports Apparel Industry(Griffith College, 2024) Jaqueline Knust, Kimberly; Rossiter, CatherineThis study analyses the influence of brand personality on customer loyalty in the German sports apparel industry. An online survey with 237 participants was conducted as part of a quantitative research design. The analysis of the collected data showed that brand presence does not have a significant influence on customer loyalty. There is no great interest in including brand personality in the purchase decision and that there is an emotional connection with the brand. However, it is possible that brand personality plays an unconscious role. In addition, no significant demographic differences were found. The results suggest that brand personality plays a subordinate role in long-term customer loyalty, while functional attributes such as price and quality are of greater importance in the German sports apparel industryItem type: Item , Psychological Contract Factors in Labour Relations In Case of LM in Saint Petersburg(Griffith College, 2024) Sorokin, Nikita; Ryan, GarrettThis dissertation is aimed at critical evaluation of the key enabling factors and barriers that impact psychological contract fulfilment of LM employees in Saint Petersburg. Such purpose is reached due to comparison of our primary research findings with the secondary data results. The primary research encompasses 13 semi-structured interviews, including 4 interviews with managers and 9 interviews with Gen Z employees. We infer that classification of psychological contract types suggested in the literature (relational, transactional, balanced, ideologically charged contracts) is applicable for examination of the employee’s engagement, but insufficient to comprise special employee’s expectations toward the company. Therefore, within the primary research we found four special employees’ expectations, each of which form particular psychological contract type as the employee is ready to give something in return for meeting his/her expectation by the company: expectation regarding team composition; expectation regarding schedule flexibility; expectation regarding promotion opportunity inside of the company or support in such opportunity outside of the company; expectation regarding technical characteristics of the workplace. The research findings provide critical evaluation of appropriate leadership styles that impact psychological contract fulfilment. At the same time, the leadership style, as well as the types of leader’s behavior, which act as the key barriers for psychological contract fulfilment, are also evaluated. Overall, we conclude that the key enabling factors that impact psychological contract fulfilment are the following: definite material and non-material factors, which impact Gen Z employees’ engagement; satisfied employees’ expectations, which form definite psychological contract type; appropriate leadership styles, which are able to align employees’ expectations with the company’s expectations, ensuing from the company culture and strategy. The key barriers that negatively impact the psychological contract fulfilment of LM employees in Saint Petersburg are the following: unmet or only somewhat met employees’ expectations; inappropriate leadership style, as well as the types of leader’s behavior that were revealed in details; some other conditions that would foster employee either to leave the job or to lower the effort, found within the primary research.Item type: Item , The Impact of Korean Cosmetic Products on Consumer Behaviour: A Case Study in the Indian Market(Griffith College, 2024) Saidu Mohammed, Bismiya; Grougiou, VasilikiThis research investigates the impact of Korean cosmetic products on consumer behaviour within the Indian market. With increasing global interest in biophilic design – an approach integrating natural elements into built environments – this research explores its relevance and effectiveness within a specific local context. The primary research question addressed is: "What is the relationship between the presence or absence of biophilic design in office environments and levels of stress, anxiety, and demotivation among employees in Feira de Santana, Brazil?" A quantitative methodology was employed, using a structured questionnaire survey to collect data from 135 office workers, of whom 115 met the criteria for analysis. The survey assessed participants' experiences with biophilic design elements, their perceptions of stress, anxiety, and demotivation, and their overall evaluations of their office environment. The findings revealed no consistent or strong correlation between biophilic design elements and reduced levels of stress, anxiety, or demotivation. Surprisingly, some offices with more natural elements were associated with higher levels of stress, which challenges existing literature that typically supports the positive impact of biophilic design on well-being. The study also found that employees in Feira de Santana had not reported a frequency of the highest levels of these emotional states, suggesting a more positive local context compared to global trends. Despite the lack of direct correlation, employees expressed a preference for workplaces that include biophilic elements such as natural light and indoor plants. This indicates a general appreciation for these features, even if their impact on well-being is not immediately apparent. The research highlights the importance of contextual factors in understanding the effects of biophilic design and suggests that future studies could benefit from a mixed-methods approach to provide deeper insights that are beyond, however, an extension of this paper. This study contributes to the existing literature by offering a localised perspective and identifying gaps in the research on the practical application of biophilic design in office settingsItem type: Item , Exploring The Impact of Brexit on Consumer Purchase Intention for Reshored Food Brands in Ireland(Griffith College, 2024) Khan, Feroz; Walter, KlausThis thesis investigates the impact of Brexit on consumer purchase intentions towards reshored food brands in Ireland, emphasizing how the economic and regulatory changes influence consumer behaviors. Organizational culture, shaped by leadership styles, plays a crucial role in influencing employee behaviour, development, and overall performance. In this study, Schein’s (1990) model of organizational culture, which categorizes elements like group norms, espoused values, and symbolic rituals, serves as the theoretical framework to assess how culture affects the onboarding process in environments characterized by diversity. Onboarding is critical in fostering employee engagement and integration, particularly in culturally diverse settings where individuals come with varying expectations, values, and behaviors. Leaders play a pivotal role in shaping and reinforcing organizational culture during onboarding. Transformational and participative leadership styles are shown to positively influence culture by promoting innovation, collaboration, and mutual respect, essential for integrating a diverse workforce. Conversely, laissez-faire leadership, marked by minimal guidance, may lead to disengagement and hinder the onboarding process, particularly in environments requiring cohesion and clarity. The research also explores how employees validate managerial efforts to create a positive work climate and improve retention through questionnaires. These questionnaires assess the effectiveness of leadership in fostering a culture that supports employee engagement, job satisfaction, and retention. By examining employee feedback, the study provides insights into how managerial efforts directly impact the creation of a positive work environment and retention of a diverse workforce. Additionally, the study investigates the mediating role of organizational culture between leadership styles and onboarding effectiveness. A positive and inclusive culture can enhance the onboarding experience by aligning the diverse workforce with the organization's values and goals. The external environment, including the dynamic nature of children’s camps, also shapes how culture evolves and influences onboarding. The findings will offer valuable insights for camp administrators and leaders on fostering a supportive and inclusive culture that promotes the smooth integration of a diverse workforce and improves retention through effective leadership practices and positive work climate formation.Item type: Item , Impacts of Work Environment On Employee Engagement: Evidence From Indomie Noodles Company, Nigeria.(Griffith College, 2021) Daniel Ugo Umeh; Ryan, Dr. GarrettThis study investigates the impacts of the work environment on employee engagement in Indomie Noodles, Nigeria.
