Discusses the position on illegal downloading in Ireland following the enactment of European Union (Copyright and Related Rights) Regulations 2012, allowing for the granting of injunctions requiring internet service providers to block access to websites. Reviews the background to enactment of the Regulations, identifies relevant EU Directives, compares the 2012 Regulation with similar legislation in England, asks why in this case it was decided to enact EU legislation by way of a statutory instrument rather than an Act, and considers an EU case and an English case on the issue of injunctions and illegal downloads.
